The 29th Tokyo Motor Show 1991

1991.10.25-11.8 (at Makuhari)

The theme of the 29th Tokyo Motor Show was "Discovering a New Relationship: People, Cars and the Earth as One." The number of visitors to the 15-day event surpassed the 2-million mark for the first time thanks to the prolonged duration and extended closing time of the show. In order to create a visitor-friendly environment, the organizer secured wider space for pathways and public use. Although the total space was extended, the areas for exhibitors' vehicles and products accounted for 54.1% of the total, a decrease from the 66.3% of the previous show. The North Hall was newly used for the motor show this year. Many exhibited vehicles featured "Environment- and Human-friendly" aspects such as hydrogen cars and methanol-powered vehicles. Also, a significant improvement in vehicle performance has been found in the exhibited electric vehicles (EVs) this year. Other key trends of the carmakers included "lightweight" and "compact" by the use of new materials. Another thing was the revival of the Theme Hall after an 8-year absence since the 25th motor show in 1983.
