Audi Stand Highlights at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show
At the 37th Tokyo Motor Show, Audi expresses its sporty, progressive and sophisticated world based on its philosophy of "Vorsprung durch Technik" (Advancement through Technology). The exhibit will convey this essence of the DNA of Dr. August Horch, the founding father of the Brand who created the company in 1899.

The stand’s concept is "Human Motion", and the booth’s unifying orange color exudes a sense of human warmth, while the architectural design evokes the feeling of motion and evolution in the soul. Bands of plasma displays will convey image and text messages about the Audi product on display.

Exhibit Model Highlights
Audi Le Mans quattro (concept car)

Audi Le Mans quattro, is concept car that was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA (International Motor Show) in September. A two-seater high performance mid-engine sports car, the Le Mans quattro takes on the genes of the Audi R8 that won the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race three years in a row. This model is powered by a 5.0 liter V10 DOHC bi-turbo engine that uses FSI gasoline direct injection technology whose performance was proven in the R8. It generates a maximum output of 610ps/6,800rpm and maximum torque of 750Nm/1,750 to 5,800rpm, accelerating the car from zero to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds. Driven by quattro (Audi? permanent road-gripping 4WD system), the ASF aluminum body weighs 1,530kg with a distribution of 40:60, front to rear. The front design reflects Audi's characteristic single-frame grille concept with large air intakes on both sides, with LED headlights covered in clear glass.

Audi Pikes Peak quattro (concept car)

The Audi Pikes Peak quattro is a concept model first shown at this year's North American International Auto Show. It is designed for on-road and off-road driving, and derives its name from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climbing race in the U.S., which was won 16 years ago by Walter Rohrl driving an Audi Sports quattro S1. The Audi Pikes Peak quattro has more varied characters than the Sports quattro that reigned in world rally races. It uniquely melds the power of the legendary Audi quattro and the refined characteristics of Audi production models, to create a crossover vehicle that is progressive in every sense. Its bi-turbo V8 FSI engine generates a powerful maximum output of 500ps, and variable ground clearance adaptive air suspension with quattro makes for excellent off-road drive performance. Finally, the Pikes Peak quattro? polished styling gives it character that clearly separates it from ordinary SUV models.

Audi A3 3.2 quattro

The new Audi A3 represents the second generation of the A3 series, and made its debut this autumn featuring a dynamic new design and impressive level of overall quality that distinguishes it from its rivals in the same class. A new 24-valve V6 3.2-liter engine and technologically advanced twin-clutch system transmission DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) create a powerful performance machine; the engine? maximum output is 184kW (250ps), generating a maximum torque of 320Nm at the wide range of 2,500 to 3,000rpm. And with the DSG? amazingly short gearshifts, this flagship A3 model is propelled smoothly for most dynamic and sporty performance in the history of the A3.

Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro (Audi exclusive version)

The Audi TT, which takes its initials from "Tourist Trophy" - the legendary motor sports event held in Isle of Man in Britain - is a model that has established fame of its own with its unique design, which created a new paradigm in car design. As the flagship of the TT model line up, the Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro features a new 24-valve, V6 3.2-liter engine generating a maximum output of 250ps, and also adopts the innovative transmission technology DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). The DSG combines the strong points of the traditional six-speed manual gearbox and the convenience of an automatic transmission for agile driving without interrupting the flow of power during shift changes.

Audi S4 Avant

The Audi S4 Avant is the high performance model for the Audi A4 family. It inherits the S model tradition of great performance without being flashy; the S4's special sports character is expressed by its powerful front grille, aluminum outside rear view mirror housing and 18-inch Avus-design aluminum wheel. A new V8 DOHC (five valves per cylinder) 4.2-liter engine has been created exclusively for the S4, generating a maximum output of 253kW (344ps) and maximum torque of 410Nm (41.8kgm). Furthermore, a newly developed six-speed Tiptronic transmission, quattro permanent 4WD and sports-tuned high performance suspension make for an outstanding driving performance. The new S4 is a model that blends the technological highlights of the Audi brand, while achieving the comfort and convenience for use as an "eryday sports car".

Audi allroad quattro 4.2 (Audi exclusive version)

The Audi allroad quattro 4.2 represents a new generation of luxury car that promises maximum performance off-road while meeting the expectations of an on-road touring car. A powerful new 300ps V8, five-valve DOHC engine has been introduced, based on that mounted in the S4, with maximum torque of 380Nm through the wide range of 2,700 to 4,600rpm. A unique four-wheel air suspension system, quattro, DSP (Dynamic Shift Program) and a five-speed Tiptronic transmission with a sport-mode make the allroad quattro 4.2 a truly special performance machine, melding the best of sports and luxury.

Audi RS6 (Audi exclusive version)

The Audi RS6 represents Audi's most powerful production model to date, and is the result of collaboration between AUDI AG and its sports tuning subsidiary, quattro GmbH. Establishing a new standard in performance cars, the RS6 features a 450ps V8 bi-turbo engine, quattro for all-wheel grip, an eight-piston caliper braking system, and an innovative suspension system, DRC (Dynamic Ride Control). The acceleration of the Audi RS6 from zero to 100km/h is only 4.9 seconds. Though boasting truly outstanding performance capability, the Audi RS6 masks this fact with a relatively reserved exterior appearance so the potential cannot be felt only by looking at the car.

Audi A8 4.2 quattro (Japan Premiere)

The new Audi A8 is the Brand? flagship, and as such is loaded with technologies that separate it from its rivals and suggest the identity of Audi's future. As the embodiment of Audi's philosophy of "Vorsprung durch Technik", the A8 boasts sporty features, clear design, innovative technology and the highest level of quality. A 4.2-liter V8 DOHC engine generates a maximum output of 335ps (246kW), a maximum torque of 430Nm/3,500rpm, and employs a newly developed six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Supporting the performance and economy of this engine/transmission combination is the lightweight aluminum ASF (Audi Space Frame) concept.

Moreover, the quattro system converts the A8's sporty engine performance into excellent traction. An adaptive air suspension with stepless variable damper is used in the new Audi A8 to control body movement for enhanced road holding and ride comfort. The new A8, with its outstanding driving characteristics, can be said to be the ultimate driver's sports saloon in the luxury D-segment. But the reason for this is not limited to its dynamic performance. The interior represents the epitome of sophisticated luxury, and is equipped with a leading-edge communication system called MMI (Multimedia Interface), allowing the driver to focus on the pleasure of driving by intuitively providing the driver with accurate information.
Technology Exhibit: RS6 Engine

The 4.2-liter V8 DOHC bi-turbo engine created for the Audi RS6 generates a maximum output of 450ps (331kW) at 5,700 to 6,400rpm and a maximum torque of 560Nm in an astonishing rpm range of 1,950 to 5,600. The secret of the outstanding power is the twin-turbo chargers; twin inter-coolers optimize the super charge efficiency. The engine block is made of aluminum, with five valves per cylinder; three valves on the intake side and two on the exhaust side with locker bearing type locker arm lay out. The intake and exhaust ports have been tuned for ultimate power, and the air duct design has been designed for optimized intake and exhaust with twin-turbo chargers. Finally, the water-cooling system has been closely studied for best heat dissipation characteristics in relation to the combustion chamber and valve layout.
