The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. will hold the FUTURE EXPO exhibit at the MEGA WEB automobile theme park during the 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019 (dates: October 24 through November 4 [12 days]), starting from October 25. Organized in cooperation with a wide range of businesses and organizations including the Olympic and Paralympic Economic Council and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), this inter-industry project will be a major highlight of the Tokyo Motor Show.

At the FUTURE EXPO exhibit, cutting-edge technologies will be featured from roughly 60 corporations and entities, including NTT, Panasonic, NEC, Fujitsu and other member companies of the Olympic and Paralympic Economic Council. The MEGA WEB space will comprise over 90 stations where visitors can enjoy direct encounters with the future!

Visitors to FUTURE EXPO will have the chance to experience various aspects of life in the future, from everyday connected mobility in an urban environment to sports viewing to the advantages provided by artificial intelligence-facilitated tourism.

FUTURE EXPO Overview: Enter the Japan of the Future and Experience the Possibilities!

1. Entering the future as it will be experienced in Japan

Visitors to the exhibit pass through a tunnel and enter the Japan of the future. As they emerge, they are met and guided through the entrance area by virtual characters voiced by Japanese comedians. With their entertaining conversation, these characters will immediately draw visitors deeper into the future. Venue staff will circulate in this area on new mobility vehicles while visitors start their journey through the exhibit’s futuristic space.

2. Future mobility encounters in a city of the future

Moving further into the exhibit, visitors will reach a futuristic cityscape in which they will encounter the new mobility of the future. Here they can interact with a wide range of displays and enjoy a “mobility experience” featuring cutting-edge vehicle models. This venue will also feature an installation depicting a future lifestyle that fuses mobility and living space.

    A result of NEC’s “flying car” development efforts, this future mobility vehicle will soon be straddling land and sky!

    Autonomous driving, set to become a reality by 2030, will drastically change transport time and comfort.
    Panasonic proposes a comfortable car interior of the future that shifts from “Living Room” to “Business,” “Relax,” and “Entertainment” atmospheres.

    Nissan is facilitating a connected society where homes and cars can recharge each other.

3. Sports viewing and local tourism enhancement

The future world of sports viewing can be experienced in FUTURE EXPO’s sports venue. There will be much to enjoy, from watching sports performed on a giant screen using advanced communications technology to observing target-shooting demonstrations by robots. In the local tourism venue, regional products from throughout Japan will be sold using facial recognition software while robots guide visitors through this area in multiple languages.

4. Hydrogen energy and space technologies to support future human activity

FUTURE EXPO’s future energy venue introduces visitors to hydrogen energy and space technologies, demonstrating how fuel cell vehicles and advanced space technology will help support new energy-based systems and activities in the future.

    Using hydrogen as fuel and emitting no emissions except water, Honda’s Clarity, the car of the future, will be on display at the venue.

  • Lunar exploration vehicle: Manned Pressurized Rover (JAXA/Toyota)

    Using fuel cell technology, this vehicle was designed for manned lunar exploration.
    Don’t miss seeing what it can do!

  • Space technology (ispace)

    Developed by ispace together with JAXA to operate on the moon’s surface, this vehicle features advanced technology for lunar resources exploration.

The 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019 has been organized to show visitors that dreams of future mobility are coming true. To showcase the show’s “OPEN FUTURE” theme, events and activities will be held across a larger-than-ever show site in Tokyo Waterfront City, including Tokyo Big Sight’s Aomi and (Ariake) West and South exhibition halls, MEGA WEB theme park (for the “Future Expo” exhibit), Symbol Promenade Park (for the Open Road) and Drive Park venue.

FUTURE EXPO is one of the first Tokyo Motor Show exhibits to be accessible free of charge and is a space that will be enjoyed by longtime show visitors and first-time visitors alike. All are welcome!
