Final!Successful 32nd Tokyo Motor Show Closes
After 13 days of being open to the public the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show has closed its doors. Thanks to fine weather and a relaxation of exhibit regulations, for example, allowing two-story exhibits, an exhibit-by-enterprise policy (displaying both passenger cars and commercial vehicles at individual booths) and a focus on injecting an entertainment element with various performances, the total number of visitors climbed pass 1,500,000. Noteworthy, the two-story facilities contributed to an expanded exhibition space, and the creative efforts of all the exhibitors helped remove the anxiety of displaying both passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the same booth and, unexpectedly, allowed the exhibits to be more focused. Subsequent shows for passenger cars and commercial vehicles will be held separately, alternating yearly. Thus the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show can be considered a major turning point in this show's history.
In response to foreign manufacturer requests, the Japan Motor Industrial Federation Inc. (JMIF) has finally accomplished its desire to expand the exhibition space for foreign auto manufacturers to about 3,100m2. Jean M. Muller, Secretary General, OICA (Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles), praised this policy saying, "even foreign auto manufacturers can get enough space for exhibition. I have never seen a show accomplish this level of fairness."
Members of the press, who have visited from all over the world (71 countries), all felt that, "One can never talk about motor shows if you have never seen the Tokyo Motor Show." Among them, Mr. Ignacio Alvarez from Uruguay was the first TV interviewer from that country. The total number of registered press members was 11,800 Japanese and 2,800 from abroad.
The farewell ceremonies started at 7:00 p.m. in each booth. Some of the spokesmodels, as well as a few visitors, even began to tear up, this is something that can only be seen on the last day. Also, many of the visitors were no doubt thinking "thank you for showing us such a good time".
