The last day of the three day weekend and again the weather turned out to be fine. JR's Kaihin-Makuhari Station, the nearest to Makuhari Messe, where the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show is being held, was filled with people into the evening. At 7:00 p.m., after playing the closing music, some visitors were still lingering around the exhibits. The person in charge

rapid transportation of big loads.
Behind of the GIGA, there is an RV sports concept vehicle, the attention grabbing VX-2. It is the successor of the VehiCROSS, which was introduced at the 30th Tokyo Motor Show in 1993, and will go to production later. An all round vehicle, the VX-2 has truncated front and rear overhangs guaranteeing responsive handling. Another concept vehicle, also an RV, is the ZACCAR. Contrasting the hardness of the VX-2, the ZACCAR represents a more gentle character. The ZACCAR is being developed as a free-and-easy utility vehicle targeted towards youth. As a result, there were many young observers around the ZACCAR.
With these reference vehicles, ISUZU also puts special emphasis on its new generation diesel engine, the Dd. ISUZU is developing three variants of the Dd engine, a 1.5-2 liter, a 2.5-3.0 liter and a 3.0 liter. Remarkably, the Dd engine is reported to use 50-60% less fuel than a gasoline engine of the same displacement.

15 exhibits introduce various kinds of special purpose vehicles, including a concrete pump truck and a dump truck, at the Outdoor Exhibition Site. The vehicles displayed in the Outdoor Exhibition Site are not so spectacular, but those who enjoy looking at outdoor exhibits will enjoy themselves. Family visitors can also enjoy game machines and driving simulators located in the area.

The fastest growing market is the navigation system market. In addition to increasing their capacity, installing a twin screen function and accelerating their processing speeds, navigation systems will integrate ITS (Intelligent Traffic System) as their primary information source. The Denso booth and the Aishin Seiki booth are introducing ITS as a traffic system of the 21st century.

Among the domestic parts exhibitors, the Asahi Glass booth with its unique exhibition style and the Kayaba Industry booth with its experience corner are popular. As is the Calsonic booth with its wide-range of products from radiators to car navigation systems.

The Secretary General of OICA talks about the Show
Mr. Jean Marie Muller, Secretary General, OICA (Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles) and Mr. Rudolphe Huser, President, Exhibition Committee, OICA are staying in Japan to observe the Tokyo Motor Show. They comment on the show, and also talk about the motor shows in Europe.
Regarding the Tokyo Motor Show
Compared with the excellent show two years ago, this show is much better. It is very functional and easy for looking around. The overall layout of the Tokyo show is definitely better than those of Frankfurt or Paris, because the limited space is used very efficiently.
The space assignment for foreign auto manufacturers
Up until now I have been frustrated with the Tokyo Motor Show, but this time it is different. Both foreign auto manufacturers and foreign parts
exhibitors have an appropriately balanced space. I have never seen such consideration at a motor show.
The Tokyo Motor Show is really international
The Geneva Motor Show is very neutral due to not having any auto manufacturer in Switzerland. But, the Paris Motor Show is biased towards French vehicles and the Birmingham Motor Show towards British vehicles. So I can say that the only truly international motor shows are the Geneva and Tokyo shows.
